Cllr. Gabe Cronnelly and I have worked to secure the site and have a design team appointed.
The design team have reached a very important stage in the process which planning permission in place.
The next stage includes full design and tender for the building.
The new fire station will be located at Ballygarraun South, Athenry.
The building consists for a 361 m² fire station consisting of a single storey building to accommodate 3 no. fire tenders, storage areas, equipment storage, watch room, drying facilities, lecture room, compressor room, workshop, toilet facilities, drill yard, drill tower, refuse area and carparking.
When complete the building will provide a modern firefighting facility to serve Athenry and the catchment area. This is what the residents and fireman deserve.
I commend Cllr. Gabe Cronnelly and Galway County Council for their work in helping to bring this important facility to fruition.
