East Galway TD Seán Canney welcomes Minister Catherine Zapone’s announcement of funding of €1.2m for the School Age Childcare Capital Scheme to improve existing school age childcare services.
263 projects nationally are being supported to improve existing childcare services.
A number of childcare facilities in Galway East will benefit from the allocation of funding including, Tuam Community Childcare Centre €5,000, Top Marks Montessori, ,Monivea, €4,765, Portumna Community Childcare Group €4,772, Marian’s Creche, Headford, €5,000, Clarinbridge Montessori €4,361, Bright Beginnings, Kilchreest NS, €4,992, Happy Tots, Barnaderg NS, €2,000, Clever Clogs Montessori Preschool, Menlough NS, €5,000, and Gort Homework and Afterschool Club, Gort Resource Centre €2,950.
The allocation of funding demonstrates the commitment of the Partnership Government to provide quality and affordable childcare for school age children.
‘The Partnership Government is determined to support childcare providers in their mission to deliver quality childcare to all children and is determined to listen to children in terms of what they want. This funding of €1.2m is specifically targeted at improving the quality of existing school age childcare services, which was one of the key actions of the Action Plan on School Age Childcare, published in March of this year. This will be done through the provision of age appropriate play equipment to stimulate children mentally and physically’ stated Deputy Canney.
