Funding of over €63,000 for flood projects in East Galway was welcomed this week by East Galway TD Seán Canney.
The funding, under the minor works scheme, relates to Kilcloghans, Tuam; Graiguenavadogue, Caltra and Ballinakill, Loughrea and is to be made available by the Office of Public Works to Galway County Council who will oversee the work.
‘€3,650 in additional funding has been approved for a project at Kilcloghans, Tuam, which involves the construction of a reinforced concrete flood defence wall and the fitting of a pipe and flap valve to the outfall of the existing open land drain to the Clare River.
‘€14,940 has been allocated for the project at Graiguenavaddogue, Caltra. This will involve the construction of two headwalls and the cleaning of field drains and the installation of a new culvert and associated works.
‘The largest of the three projects is the allocation of €45,000 for a project at Ballinakill, Loughrea. This will involve the replacement of an existing culvert system with a storm water culvert and associated works.
‘I am glad to see that the Office of Public Works is allocating funding at this time during the summer works to ensure that the necessary works can be carried out in advance of the winter flooding period. I would urge Galway County Council to ensure that these projects are carried out as soon as possible.
