Minister of State for International & Road Transport, Logistics, Rail & Ports and Leader of the Independent Group of Ministers, Seán Canney TD has warmly welcomed the announcement of €500,000 in national funding under the Climate Actions Work Engagement Fund, with €60,000 allocated to 11 community-led climate projects in County Galway.
The funding, announced by Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications Darragh O’Brien and Minister for the Circular Economy Alan Dillon, aims to support local organisations working to raise awareness, encourage participation and drive climate action in their communities.
Minister Canney said:
“This is a hugely welcome investment in grassroots climate action. I’m delighted to see 11 Galway-based organisations receive a combined €60,000 in recognition of the excellent work they are doing to promote sustainability, energy awareness, education and biodiversity in their local areas.”
The Galway organisations and their grant amounts are:
- Ballinderreen Community Centre – €5,000
- Brigit’s Garden – €2,500
- Burrenbeo Trust – €5,000
- CELT (Centre for Environmental Living and Training) – €5,000
- Croi na Gaillimhe – €2,500
- Galway Energy Cooperative – €2,500
- Galway Volunteer Centre – €5,000
- Geotreallús Dhúiche Sheoigheach agus Lochanna an Iarthair – €10,000
- Kinvara and District Sustainable Energy Community – €7,500
- Meelick Eyrecourt GAA – €10,000
- Westside Resource Centre – €5,000
“These projects reflect the energy and creativity of Galway communities in responding to climate change,” Minister Canney continued. “From sustainable energy communities to education, intergenerational initiatives and rural action, this funding will empower local people to keep driving change at every level.”
The Climate Actions Work Engagement Fund is administered by Community Foundation Ireland and forms part of the national Climate Actions Work Programme, which seeks to build public engagement and support for climate action through storytelling, collaboration and community events.
