Welcomes funding of €200k for the Planning of the Station Quarter which has been granted to Galway County Council.
This funding is a game changer for the town in terms of developing the station quarter inline with the Master Plan for Tuam.
The Town Centre First Heritage Revival (THRIVE) strand 1 funding will help develop the plan for the station quarter for planning and allow for the County Council to then apply for the next round of Urban Regeneration funding to build out the project. Tuam is one of 10 towns across the region to receive funding.
The project will include the planning for an intermodal transport hub including the train station, bus and carpark and a park and ride facility. It will also convert the existing Station building for use as Technology Hub.
There is also a plan for residential accommodation on the stadium side of the tracks on land owned by CIE. The project will also include getting the necessary consents and licences in place from all the stakeholders.
“I commend Galway County Council in partnership with Action Tuam who applied for the funding which is administered by the North and Northwest Regional assembly and funded by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.
I am confident that this project will transform the Station site and will complement the Health Campus already in place opposite the station.
Tuam needs this type of development to ensure the town achieves its full potential as the largest town in Galway and I will continue to influence Government policy to support regional towns”.
