Galway East TD and Minister of State for OPW and Flood Relief, Seán Canney has welcomed the commencement of construction work at Cahergal NS.
Minister Canney attended the sod turning ceremony at the school on Monday morning. ‘The preferred contractor has been selected and construction on the site is to begin immediately. This is great news for the Principal Sally Flynn, the staff, Board of Management, pupils and parents. The school will be completed and ready for use in September 2017.
‘The campaign to have a new school in Cahergal is ongoing since 1990. The community has put huge effort into getting this school progressed and I am delighted that works are finally underway to create a 21st century school setting for children in Cahergal and the school catchment area. It is vital that we provide modern schools in order to give pupils the optimum start in their education.’
