I today met with Aer Lingus pilots outside the Convention Centre to discuss the current crisis within the aviation industry. I also met today with Shannon Chamber and the Hotel Federation to offer support for their campaign for Government support for the Aviation industry in the regions.
“It is imperative that Ireland immediately allow US citizens, who are fully vaccinated to enter into this country without the need for hotel quarantine”
“I also welcome Chambers of Commerce in Cork, Ennis, Galway, Limerick, Shannon and Tralee calling for regional air connectivity as the COVID restrictions are further eased”.
“The call for a portion of all restored and new routes into Ireland to be across the regional airports such as Shannon, Knock, Cork & Kerry airports”.
“We need to deliver a balanced restoration of services to ensure the tourism and hospitality are re-ignited as a matter of urgency”.
“Following the announcement by Aer Lingus to close its base in Shannon, which is a worry, I would urge them to reconsider this decision in light of the level of state support they are receiving”.
“It is important that Government step in to support the business case and financial model presented to them by Shannon Chambers and the Hotels Federation”.
“Aviation needs support through this difficult period as international connectivity is vital for regional development”.
