I welcome the inclusion of the refurbishment of Tuam Courthouse in the Courts Service Annual Report as part of their Strategic priorities.
The report published recently confirmed the Courts Service priority to improve court accommodation and facilities under the National Development Plan.
Tuam Courthouse is closed for over ten years and courts have been held in various locations including The Town Hall, The Old Grove building and now on the Weir Road. These are all temporary locations.
Meanwhile, the courthouse has been left to recede into a derelict site. The Courts Service purchased the Tuam Stars building to the rear of the Courthouse a number of years ago.
‘I am confident that the Courts Service will progress the development of this site and I acknowledge the support of former Justice Minister Charlie Flanagan in my efforts to include Tuam in the list of priorities’.
‘I will be contacting the Office of Public Works and the Courts Service to push for this project to be expedited’.
The refurbishment / development of a permanent Courthouse is vital for Tuam and will also bring back into use an iconic building in Tuam’.
