The deadline is looming for Measure 1 funding under
the €10 million Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme.
The Scheme, which is administered by my Department, the Department of Rural and Community Development, has provided vital support for projects all around the Galway East constituency.
Over the last two years, Galway East received in excess of €748,000 in allocations.
Projects to benefit have included Loughrea Walks, Lackagh/Knockdoemore Walking Trail, two walking trails at Clarinbridge, the Hymany Way, Portumna, Gort River Walk, Canon Oliver Hughes Park Walkway, Corofin and the Sliabh Aughty Walking Trails.
The deadline for Measure 1 applications to Galway County Council is 4pm on Monday July 13.
These are for small scale projects of up to €20,000. These can include but are not limited to, the upkeep and repair of already established trails, walkways, cycleways, greenways and blueways, improved access to leisure or recreational facilities, and the promotion and marketing of such facilities.
Measure 2 and 3 applications for larger projects seeking grants of up to €200,000 and €500,000 have a deadline of 4pm Friday October 16 2020.
The Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme is funded by my Department in partnership with Fáilte Ireland.
Funding is delivered through local authorities, state agencies and other relevant bodies.
I would strongly encourage communities looking to enhance their outdoor recreational amenities to apply.
