Galway East TD and Minister for Rural Affairs Seán Canney has welcomed the announcement that St Jarlath’s Credit Union, Tuam and St Anthony’s and Claddagh Credit Union, Galway, are to merge.
Minister Canney said: “The amalgamation will see the creation of one of the strongest credit unions in the country.
“This is good news for Galway and will provide a strong community banking service in the area going forward.
“The credit union movement is present in our communities with St Jarlath’s having eight branches throughout Galway.
“This initiative will provide for enhanced services and new opportunities for the merged credit unions’ members.”
