The masterplan that is being developed for Tuam offers an opportunity to create a state of the art transport hub for the town.
That is according to Galway East TD and Minister for Rural Affairs Seán Canney.
Minister Canney said: “Tuam has a 14-acre site in the centre of the town at Tuam Railway Station which could be developed into a modern transport hub.
“The hub can include a park and ride facility, a bus park, a taxi rank, a cafe and shop, tourist information and public toilets.
“This could become a centrepiece for Tuam that will showcase our town as a great place to live in, to work in and to visit.
“I have been in contact with Irish Rail and Galway County Council. Both can make this possibility a reality now that funding to draw up a masterplan has been provided by my Department, the Department of Rural and Community Development.
“The funding of €175,000 was allocated last year under the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund to draw up plans for the town centre, including the railway station site.
“Anyone interested in giving their input to the masterplan can engage with the consultation process by emailing [email protected] .
“The masterplan is our opportunity to determine the development of Tuam for future generations and I would urge everyone interested to contribute.”
