Galway East TD and Minister for Rural Affairs Seán Canney has welcomed a €50,000 boost for Galway agri-food tourism.
The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine has allocated €25,000 each to Galway County Council’s Discover Galway Food Experiences initiative and Athenry’s Bia Innovator Food Campus.
Minister Canney said: “I want to congratulate both projects on these awards, which have been made under the 2020 Rural Innovation and Development Fund.
“Agri-food tourism has huge potential for growth as we emerge from the COVID-19 crisis.
“The Bia Innovator Campus in Athenry stands to be one of the foremost food science centres in Europe.
“Our local food hospitality sector is reaching new quality thresholds year after year and I am pleased that Galway County Council is being supported in its showcasing of what we have to offer.
“These allocations will also provide opportunities for rural businesses, including farmers, producers and artisans, to develop their products and services, connect with the community and visitors and improve skills and best practice.”
