The new Tuam Intreo Centre is ready to move to construction stage now that its tender process has been completed, Galway East TD and Minister for Rural Affairs Seán Canney has stated.
Minister Canney said he had received confirmation that the project to refurbish the Old Library in Shop Street can now proceed to its next phase.
He added: “The next step is the appointment of the building contractor for the works to begin on site.
“This project will see the reopening of this very historic building in the centre of Tuam.
“It will bring together the various strands of social welfare services currently located in the Town Hall and the Solas office.
“The refurbishment of the Old Library represents an investment in excess of €1.6 million in Tuam town. The project is being funded by the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection and the Office of Public Works.
“I expect the works to commence on site this summer with a 12-month construction programme.”
