Greater progress is needed in finalising the report on the Gort Lowlands Flood Relief Scheme.
The report on the feasibility study for the scheme was due to be published by the end of 2019 but it was delayed until early 2020.
We are now in May and there is still no sign of the report, which is a worry.
The people of Gort and South Galway have suffered from repeated flooding over the years and deserve better treatment.
As Minister for the Office of Public Works, I initiated this project and two years later we are still waiting for the report.
I appreciate that this project is unique from an engineering perspective but that is no comfort to the people affected by flooding.
These people live in fear every winter and have no idea if their homes and farmyards will be flooded again.
I am calling on everyone involved to focus on this project to ensure the report is finalised as soon as possible.
I have continued to support this much-needed project and I am determined that we find a solution once and for all.
