I have received confirmation from Galway County Council that tender documents for the renewal of Corofin village are being prepared.
The works include a pedestrian crossing, footpaths, lighting and other enhancements.
I am pleased that the scheme is progressing. My department, the Department of Rural and Community Development, provided funding of €100,000 towards the cost of the works under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme.
I have also been informed that the County Council has applied to the National Transport Authority for funding for a bus shelter for the village.
These works will enhance Corofin village and make it a safe haven for pedestrians of all ages.
I want to acknowledge the support of Corofin Community Development Association and the input of local residents into this project.
