Galway East TD and Minister for Rural Affairs Seán Canney has been informed that tender documents for the R332 realignment at Kilbannon are being prepared.
Minister Canney said: “Tenders will be invited in the summer.
“The stretch of the road between Kilbannon National School and the football pitch is very dangerous.
“The design for the realignment was on pubic display in February and the planning process is expected to be completed in May. Once planning is in place, the tender process can proceed. When that is completed, works can then commence on site.
“I am pleased to see progress with the project. Funding was made available last year to begin the design, ground surveys and planning process.
“A further €500,000 in funding was recently announced by the Department of Transport for construction.
“The works will include the installation of a footpath from the school to the football pitch. It will also include public lighting at the Kilbannon crossroads junction.
“The road has seen a massive increase in traffic since the opening of the new motorway and these works are essential to improve safety. The works will also create a safe walking route between the school and the football pitch.
“I acknowledge the work of Galway County Council, the Tuam Municipal Councillors and the local community for their efforts in progressing the works.
