Galway East TD and Minister for Rural Affairs Seán Canney has called on all car insurance companies to offer refunds to recompense drivers for the COVID-19 restrictions.
Minister Canney welcomed an announcement by some car insurance companies to offer refunds on premiums because of the reduction in traffic volumes and consequent claims.
He added: “I have been calling for this for some time following the example of some of the big American insurers.
“A group of Irish insurers has indicated through Insurance Ireland that they will be offering refunds. This is a step in the right direction, although we need more information about the scale of recompense.
“We also need all insurers to take a similar approach. It is important that there is a universal response from the insurance companies which would be fair for all drivers.”
