Information from Galway County Council
The Galway County freephone number has dealt with more than 260 calls for assistance from older and more vulnerable people who are self-isolating.
Local Development, Community and Voluntary Groups, Sporting organisations and members of the Public Partication Network across the county have mobilised local supports as part of the national Community Call.
The helpline deals with assisting at-risk members of the public in accessing non-emergency and non-medical supports.
The focus is on providing practical assistance such as the collection and delivery of groceries, fuel and prescriptions and setting up the provision of meals if necessary.
Transport to hospital appointments has been arranged and in partnership with the Order of Malta and others.
The helpline also provides advice about income, well-being and where to source information.
The number for anyone seeking help is 1800-928894. It can be contacted seven days a week between 9am and 6pm.
Callers to the helpline are advised to have their Eircode available so their location can be identified easily if assistance is required.
A contact email is available at [email protected] and offers of assistance and requests for assistance can be logged on the homepage of www.galway.ie.
Groups offering assistance can be found on the website and anyone interested in volunteering can register with the Galway Volunteer Centre at www.volunteergalway.ie
