Many people who would normally bring relatives, friends and neighbours to hospital are not now in a position to do so because of self-isolation or restrictions around movements by people over 70.
The Ambulance Service has been offering alternative transport and the Army has also been helping out but the Community Response helplines run by ALONE and the Galway County Council Community Forum can advise on what is available.
The ALONE Helpline is 0818-222024, while the Galway County Council helplines are 1800 928894 and 091 509390.
