The Government has introduced measures to increase protection for residents and staff in nursing homes.
I am very pleased to see a range of supports being launched as contingency measures are stepped up.
Staff screening will be twice a day and COVID-19 testing will be prioritised for staff in order to protect both themselves and residents.
The HSE will provide access to Personal Protective Equipment and offer expert advice and training.
Each nursing home will have a designated COVID-19 lead and movements within and across facilities will be kept to a minimum.
The Government has also introduced a temporary three-month Financial Support Scheme for nursing homes.
Nursing homes require these essential protection measures because staff and residents are at the frontline of the battle against COVID-19.
