Plans for Athenry’s Gaelscoil Campus are making progress with a design team for the project about to be appointed.
I have received confirmation of the imminent appointment from the Minister for Education Joe McHugh TD and I am delighted that progress is being made.
Athenry has witnessed a transformation in educational facilities recently.
The new 1,000-student Presentation College facility is now open and the new Clarin College is due to open to students in March 2020.
The next phase is the design and construction of the new Gaelscoil Campus on the old Clarin College site, which will become vacant in the coming months.
Gaelscoil Riada National School and Coláiste an Eachréidh will be located on a single campus with modern educational facilities.
Students from both schools have been accommodated in pre-fabs for far too long.
The appointment of the design team is a major milestone for the new campus and will allow Galway Educational Training Board to proceed with the design and construction of the new facility.
