Galway County Council has been allocated funding for two flood relief projects by the Office of Public Works, according to Galway East TD and Minister for Rural Affairs Seán Canney.
Baunykav, Kylebrack, Loughrea will receive €27,000 to replace an existing piped section of an open drain with circa 150 metres of a 600mm storm water pipeline.
Kilglass, Ahascragh, Ballinasloe will receive €38,250 to install 270 metres of a 450mm diameter sewer along with 180 metres of cleaning for an existing open drain and six manhole gratings.
Welcoming the funding under the Minor Works Scheme, Minister Canney said: “These much-needed works will bring relief to residents in these areas who have been living with an ongoing risk of flooding.
“I want to acknowledge the work of Galway County Council in successfully securing this funding, which will bring sense of relief to the communities involved.”
Since 2016, Galway county has received in excess of €2.5 million for minor flood relief schemes.
