A pedestrian crossing is urgently needed at the new Monivea National School, according to Galway East TD and Minister for Rural Affairs Seán Canney.
Minister Canney said he and Cllr Gabe Cronnelly had made a submission to Galway County Council to install a crossing at the school.
He added: “We made the submission after representation from parents in the interest of safety. We have asked Galway County Council to prepare a costing for the crossing. The Council has also undertaken to prepare a plan for other safety works in the village.
“I want to acknowledge the efforts of the parents, the school and the Department of Education for their part in bringing the new school to fruition. It is a great achievement.”
