The Government has amended proposed legislation to cut personal injury claims.
Galway East TD and Minister for Rural Affairs Seán Canney said: “I very much welcome the decision to amend the Judicial Council Bill.
“The move will mean our insurance environment reflects international norms and that minor injuries attract minor awards.
“Insurance premiums have reached ridiculously high levels as a result of exorbitant claims. Some organisations and events have had to close because of high insurance costs.”
Minister Canney said he had held meetings with members of the Alliance for Insurance Reform and he was pleased to note that they had also backed the amendment.
