Galway East TD and Minister of State for Community Development Seán Canney has called on youth clubs and organisations to seek a share of €2.4 million in capital grant funding announced by the Government.
Youth clubs, targeted youth services and national youth organisations will be able to apply for grants to fund improvements such as new equipment and small capital projects.
Minister Canney said: “This is a great opportunity for Galway youth organisations and services to upgrade their facilities.
“They fulfill a vital role in the development and socialisation of our young people and I very much welcome the support that is being provided by the Department of Children and Youth Affairs.
“It underlines the Government’s continuing commitment to prioritise young people and improve the quality of services for them.
Qualifying projects could include refurbishing bathroom and kitchen facilities and purchasing office equipment.
Eligible youth clubs and youth service organisations will be invited by their local Education and Training Boards to apply for funding.
The latest announcement follows €2 million in current funding for volunteer-led youth clubs under the local youth club grant scheme. It is in addition to the €60.4 million in current funding which has been provided in 2019 by Government for clubs, services and supports for young people.
