CANNEY ANNOUNCES BOOST FOR LOCAL ROADS IN GALWAY
As Minister of State at the Department of Rural Affairs, I am delighted to announce a major injection of Government funding into the county’s local roads under the Local Improvement Scheme.
Galway County has received €856,959 for minor roads that do not fall under the jurisdiction of the county council.
The funding is part of the Programme for Government commitment that I was closely involved in negotiating prior to the Government’s formation.
This funding follows on from last weeks announcement of €28,830,430 for County Galway’s rural roads. This figure represents an increase of 24% on last year’s allocation.
We are making provision for substantial improvements to our local roads network and this will be a huge benefit for the county in general and rural areas in particular.
The Local Improvement Scheme funds up to 90% of the cost of road improvements where there are five or fewer eligible residents and 85% where there are six or more residents. The remainder will be provided by the road users.
