Canney welcomes announcement of €5 million Higher Education Innovation and Transformation Fund and announcement of Ring-fenced funding for Multi Campus Institutions.
I welcome the announcement today by Minister Richard Bruton T.D. and the Minister of State for Higher Education, Mary Mitchell O’Connor T.D. that they have launched the Higher Education Innovation and Transformation fund of €5 million which will be available this year.
‘I also welcome the announcement by the Ministers that a process has opened by which higher education institutions can apply for additional funding for operating on a multi campus basis’
‘The funding is available to higher education institutions and will amount to an additional €250,000 per annum per institution. This will be of benefit to Galway Mayo Institute of Technology who have 2 Campus’s in Galway City, one in Castlebar, and one in Letterfrack. This funding is intended to recognise the challenges faced by operating in more than one campus, over a wide geographical area, and the funding implications that this presents’.
‘Having lectured in GMIT I understand the challenges faced in having multi campus locations and I welcome this funding which is positive news for the Institute’.
