Funding for road upgrades in County Galway

Significant road upgrades are to take place in the Tuam, Abbeyknockmoy and Headford areas following the announcement of the 2018 roads allocation.
Galway County Council is to receive over €25 under the allocation, which includes €1.4 million for upgrading the N17 in Tuam town, which is very welcome.
Significant funding is also provided for the N63 in the Abbeyknockmoy region. Funding of €4 million has been provided for minor works on the N63 Abbeynockmoy to Annagh as part of residual work on the Gort to Tuam network.
The 2018 road allocation contains some important allocations in terms of Galway East. €150,000 has been provided for realignment of the N17 from Milltown to Gortnagunnad. €50,000 has also been allocated for traffic calming on the N17 in Claregalway.
€1.3 million has been allocated for phase 2 of the Ballinderreen to Kinvara realignment project, which is a very important project in south Galway and €462,080 has been allocated for strengthening the N65 at Kilmeen, although questions remain about the issue of lighting in the vicinity of Kilmeen Cross.
A total of €4,689,000 has been allocated for works on the N84 Headford to Galway road. This includes over €848,000 for pavement overlay at Bunnaconeen, over €1.5 million for overlay from Castlequarter to Corrandulla, €280,000 for Clonboo to Corrandulla, over €582,000 for strengthening at Coarsefield and €414,000 for strengthening on the Galway Road in Headford. Over €436,000 has been allocated for strengthening on the northern approach to Ballindooley and a further €424,000 for overlay on the southern approach to Clonboo. A further €200,000 has also been allocated for the Luimnagh realignment scheme.
