Significant funding for towns and villages in East Galway under the Town and Village Enhancement scheme was announced today.
In total towns and villages in county Galway are to receive over €1 million in funding and the projects involved include a number of important projects in the East Galway area including projects in Ballyglunin, Knockma, Corrandulla and Headford.
Funding of €80,000 is to be provided for the restoration of iconic structures and the development of a cultural strategy in Ballyglunin. Funding of €80,000 has been provided for a walking trail extension in Caherlistrane/Belclare, which will see improved access to Knockma for visitors; €98,351 has been provide for works in Corrandulla including a playground, pedestrian crossing and resurfacing works. In Headford, €80,000 has been provided for a pedestrian crossing, bus shelter and footpath enhancement.
A lake enhancement project in Loughrea is to receive funding of €100,000 while funding of €77,600 has been provided for refurbishment of footpaths in Woodford. Funding has also been provided for works in Ballygar, Ballinasloe and towns in west Galway.
The cumulative effect of this funding will allow significant improvement works to get underway in towns and villages across the county. These projects have been identified by local community groups and businesses, in conjunction with their Local Authorities and aim to help make small towns and villages more attractive and more sustainable places in which to live and work.
