East Galway TD Seán Canney has today met with Minister Bruton along with the Principal of Coláiste an Chláirin College, the Principal of the Gaelscoil and the CE of GRETB and other Oireachtas members to highlight delays in progressing Coláiste an Chláirin College in Athenry,
‘Coláiste an Chláirin College has a student enrolment of 600. The existing buildings are not fit for purpose. The staff, parents and students have been promised a new school but is dogged with unnecessary delays.
“Today I highlighted the urgency of the new school with the Minister. The Minister has undertaken to immediately make contact with the officials in the Building Unit in an effort to get this project back on track.
‘There is a major investment plan in place for Education in Athenry. The relocation of Coláiste an Chláirin College to a new site will then free up space for the proposed new Gaelscoil campus for Athenry.
“I look forward to further positive communication from the Minister on this issue” concludes Deputy Canney.
